This is definitely not a book for every reader. It's a sick and twisted tale, dark and sinister, and a really intense thriller. Just up my alley! The author does a great job of blending the unimaginable elements with reality and even some humor. Everyone needs humor in their darkest moments, right? I did actually laugh out loud a few times between gasps.Another great thing the author does is knowing how to pace the action. He was masterful at slowing down the pace to allow the characters to reflect and give the reader background information, and then quickening the pace to speed along the action. By the end, the reader really understands the motivation for each of the three main characters and can connect with the protagonists. Even though the story is horrific and I hope it would never really happen, it reads like it could happen and the reasons why it's plausible.I found myself really wishing this would be made into a movie. I guess my heart stopping while reading wasn't enough - I need more on the big screen. I can hear the silence in the background, the whizzing of bullets, the drama of waiting and thinking and planning...it would be an intense film!I have not read another book quite like this. Stephen King books can be intense, but they are written in a different way. I like that Mr. Adams has a unique style, with fleshed out ideas, with smart characters, and is not afraid to use humor to release tension in the right places. Seriously, the brownie story had me laughing while holding my breath to see what happens.And it's his debut novel!!! Can't wait for more!

perhaps you have noticed that an awful lot of books are described as "gripping thrillers filled with twists and turns that you don't see coming" or other overblown descriptions like that. and perhaps you have read some that simply do not in any way live up to that promise. and maybe you are even, like i am, tired of those overblown descriptions. which brings me to this book.when i purchased this book i was familiar with Taylor Adams and knew i would need to fasten my seat belt because i know that this author will happily kill off some of the good guys in the story so you never know what to expect. in this particular story, i loved the protagonist for his compassion and his humanity and his propensity to even have empathy for the antagonist. it's touching. and it's nerve wracking.there was humor and it is my kind of humor--dark. and when one particular thing is revealed about our hero at the end, i wanted to stand up and cheer. best suspense story i have read in a long time. yes. it is gripping and edge of your seat suspense. no lie.
I bought this book after reading "No Exit" earlier this year and being pretty blown away by the page-turning suspense. Eyeshot was good, but I thought it fell down in a few places.First, I really loved the way the author spent a lot of time developing characters and an entire plot with just a few devices (a handful of characters, a car stalled in a desert, the items in the car, a sniper, an accomplice). The way Adams spent time developing scenes carefully and the way he spent pages and pages describing just the smallest decisions and moments was pretty incredible.But, the narration skipped around a bit, and at some times, I felt like he glossed over pretty crucial plot points. For the time and care spent describing how a character spent 5 seconds unholstering a gun, it seemed like a strange decision to then turn around and not describe how certain characters overtook others, or how other critical scenes played out.I also didn't care for the motivations of the main characters -- a husband and wife who want to have a baby, but can't. It's a pretty tired marital drama/plot device and it didn't do anything to make me connect with the characters.Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book, though! I read it in just three sittings -- truly couldn't put it down. And I'll be reading more from this author for sure!
