It would be a welcome and affordable addition to anyone’s bookshelf.' The Open University Geological Society Journal. ‘the book is highly recommended for geo-tourists visiting Iceland, both for individual travellers and for those participating in organized tours. I used this book on a tourist trip around the Ring Road with Insight Vacations, accompanied by a guide who really knew Iceland and its geology very well. Still, this little book (it fits in your coat pocket) was very useful: good descriptions, especially of volcanic features, and details for specific trip routes. Although the book includes basic information on plate tectonics, volcanoes and glaciers (that's what you are going to see!), it is written at a level most suitable for geologists (which I am). I found the color maps useful but difficult to read (very fine print, which is why 4 stars not five). If you are not a geologist, you would be best to seek out a knowledgeable guide to really get the most out of your trip. Then, get this book if you want more information about rifts, under-the-ice eruptions, geysers, geothermal systems, ice caps and exit glaciers, ice floods, and outwash plains.

Read in preparation for a trip to Iceland. The book is clearly not designed for use by the of average knowledge or interest and had me at a loss for a bit of the text.Yet, other than some few tourist pictured guides suitable for children or drop outs by their simplistic approach, there is no other real contender to really get much information on geothermal features of the country dealing with the Science.I am sure my good comprehension was limited to perhaps a quarter of the work's contents. Even at that, the illustrations and the limited information derived, beyond that of the simple picture brochures available at the souvenir shops, is worth the purchase.I would hope for some mid-ground information for this.

I enjoyed reading this book on my recent trip to Iceland. It is written for geologists so there is a lot of terminology that is tough to decipher. I spent a lot of time googling terms like moberg ridge but I am glad I did. Gives you a fantastic picture of what you are seeing that you will not find in other guidebooks.

Excellent color edition - a very nice overview of Iceland geology with culture mixed in.I like the nice bound paperback format as well by Dunedin

Beautiful book, thank you.

Perfect descriptions of Iceland geology, to let you know what you saw or hope to see. This is a land with living geology, and this book was not available in Iceland. Get it before you go.
