I checked this one out at the library before I purchased it so I knew what I was getting. I've made a couple of recipes and was happy with the results. The anecdotes about the recipes are very entertaining, but the recipes tend to need more detailed information. As long as you aren't expecting the world's greatest cookbook, have some cooking experience and enjoy a good mystery you will probably like this book.
Lots of fun to read, but not many recipes I probably really try. Liked the recipes that were most connected to the author's characters. For example, Lee Child's had a recipe for making coffee which his character, Jack Reacher, drinks lots of. However, I disagreed with him that coffee requires a think lipped cup, no a mug. I prefer a large ceramic cup this medium thick lip.
I came upon this book quite by accident, as it was mentioned in the Food Network magazine. When I saw that my very favorite mysterywriter, Louise Penny, had contributed to the recipes, I just had to have it. I have all of the Gamache series by Louise and this will siton the shelf right alongside them.
My son-in-law is a great cook and a great lover of mystery novels. This was a perfect Christmas book. I reviewed the recipes and they all looked terrific. I also recognized almost all the mystery writers. My son-in-law was thrilled with the gift.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars, is that some of the mystery writers I read were not there. I haven't made them all, but they all look like good recipes.
Great book. Love the stories and some of the recipes are to die for! This is a beautiful book full of great recipes from some of my favorite authors. Although I have no intention of parting with mine, this would make a great gift for the mystery buff who likes to cook.
The perfect gift for the mystery reader-cook in your life. I bought it as Christmas present for two friends.Both were delighted! Am thinking of getting one for myself, too!
I purchased multiple copies in anticipation of giving as gifts. I read my copy on the plane from California to D.C. while sandwiched between two gentlemen. After we landed and they helped me with my luggage, both commented on the wonderful recipes in this book. And there you have it.
